Anna Centenary Library — A Treasure That Needs a Little Care

Anna Centenary Library has been my all-time favourite place to hang out with a book. During my postgraduate days at College of Engineering, Guindy (2012–2014), I spent most of my free time there. Anytime we got an afternoon off from classes, I would rush straight to the library - to the Computer Science division on the 6th floor. I would pick up my books, find my favourite spot - by the window, with a view towards the road, and lose myself in taking notes. I honestly don’t know how many hours I spent there during my two years at college. I didn't have to purchase a single book for my PG. Anna library had it all. The library then had a simple, efficient system: search for your book on the library computer, get a number, and find the book. Looking up for a book was effortless because the racks were perfectly ordered. Readers were not allowed to put books back on the racks after reading - instead, librarians did it properly to avoid misplacing books. Different types of comfortable cha...

When you are alone, the universe comes to your support

I was in the office when my husband called and informed me that he had been hospitalised. It was around 11:30 a.m. "They're saying I need to undergo surgery today," he said. It took me a few minutes to grasp what he was saying. I knew that he had sustained an injury and planned to see the doctor. When I offered to accompany him, he politely declined. But now, a hospitalisation and a surgery? "The surgery is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. So, there's no need for you to come immediately. Just plan to arrive around 3:30pm," he continued. Alright, now I have time to digest this information. I sat idle for 2 minutes. Then I turned to my colleague, told her what happened. ‘Go now’, she said. And that really helped me make a decision. When I reached the hospital, they were already preparing him for the surgery. ‘Infection started spreading around the injury’. We need to act quickly. The doctor explained as I was signing the consent form.  After sending him to the OT at ...

Humans of Chennai !

It was 6.55 am on Thursday morning and I had already started to office. It was an important day, I had to reach office early. I started well in advance. 7.37 am. Half way thru. I felt my car was not speeding enough. Decided to switch off the engine and restart as I was waiting at a signal. Yeah! restart and refresh does magic with programs but didn’t work with car.  Car stood still at the middle of the OMR road. Traffic was getting heavier. Rain added flavour to the situation.  Vehicles honked at me. All I could do was wave my hands to indicate that my vehicle can’t be moved. Audi, Benz, jeeps.. different types of  vehicles passed by. No one even bothered what I was doing there. I too didn’t know how to get help. Tried few numbers of nearby mechanics. But no one was open at that hour. More than my car not starting I was worried about not reaching office at time. I knew my team would be expecting me there! Even the thought of leaving my car at middle of the road and gettin...
